Rabbit Carrot Gun

The girls met for brunch last Saturday so ZX and Bielet came along for a rare Saturday brunch :)) With ZX so busy at work, it was nice for us to spend some time with him AND still have girlfriend time. Hee. Thankfully my girlfriends get along with ZX, altho the man of few words rarely joins in any convo but he doesn't not want to come when we go out...

Between Artichoke, Toby's Estate, Cafe Melba and Rabbit Carrot Gun, I voted for the latter because of its cute name and its proximity to home. Like I really don't wanna drive so far when I have been sick and sleeping so little. So the girls agreed to RCG at East Coast Road to accommodate this lazy, tired mama. Thanks, my sweets!

Right next to the famous 328 Katong Laksa, you'll find RCG at one of the quaint shophouses in the Joo Chiat area. The old school throwback decor (think bluish-grey tartan boothseats, monochrome canvas photo prints, wooden tables and chairs) fits in nicely with the historic estate, although the shiny chandelier (not pictured) does add a classy touch too.

Love the mod painting above Em

So I like the place, but what about the food?

My French Toast served with Berry Compote ($11.90)

ZX's Game Keepers Shooting Breakfast [poached eggs] ($17.50)

Emm's Game Keepers Shooting Breakfast [scrambled eggs with spinach instead of sausage] - G had another variation of this set but sans sausage too and more eggs

Thumbs up for the taste, but I thought the portions were a tad too small (especially for that price). Or maybe it was just my french toast. Bielet really enjoyed her food (a mixed, mini version of ZX's and mine**) although she needed a bit of cajoling to eat the sausage and ham - she is a carb monster, see. Our drinks of coffees (Emm & G), hot chocolate (ZX) and iced chocolate (mine) didn't blow us away too. But it was a nice place to sit back, chat and laugh with the girls *missed you Yules!* while Bielet clambered up and down the boothseat, shouted excitedly when she sighted "another bus!" (the eatery is by the busy East Coast Road, which had crazy busy roadworks that day) and ZX the ah pek busied himself by thumbing through his newspapers. Rather fancy the place and will give it another go at lunch or dinner for my final verdict ;))

**Side note: Was sharing with the girls that I came across a few parenting forums with parents who insist on their kids eating specially cooked baby-only food. Like they will lug a travel sized cooker for healthy porridge, fresh vegetables, maybe even only organic everything. While I can understand their concerns for wanting the best for their children, I personally think that's a bit much - but then again, I can imagine their horror and chagrin when they see me feeding Bielet sweet potato fritters from the night market (Bielet's fav snack when we were in Taiwan! And she was only 1.5yo...) Guess we shouldn't judge each other's parenting style, eh? To each his own :D

What's cool about RCG is that above the eatery, there are three suites available for rent! And boy, do the beds look inviting! These are the sort of rooms that get me all excited when I travel (of course, the price has to be right also...) Check out pictures of the suites on their website, as well as those another while away at Ceylon House (closer to 112 Katong). Awesomeness.

Ending this post with a couple of us shots :)) As I captioned on Instagram, "Rare Saturday morning brunch + family shot = happiness" -- altho Bielet wasn't too keen on being captured in any snaps. Lol.
