SkyHigh Mount Dandenong

A destination in itself, SkyHigh Mount Dandenong {website} is at the uppermost reach of the Dandenong Ranges (another incredible place you need to make time for if you're headed to Melbourne - more on that in a later blog post) and houses a fine dining restaurant - with the most spectacular views of the surrounds - as well as their own gardens and four mazes. Deciding to head here for dinner was rather impromptu since we had had a full day out at the ranges, so by the time we got here, the gardens and mazes were closed for the day. No matter though, since we were contented with soaking up the magnificent views and Ashcombe had satiated our maze envy (if there's such a thing lol).

The little one seated in "the giant's chair"

It was so beautiful up there, but the photos don't do any justice to the breathtaking views.....

Attempting a panoramic shot before the camera died on us (somehow, the panoramic function went crazy and never worked again)

This was taken when we first arrived and had bought a wee snack to stave off the girls' hunger before dinner

I'm guessing most travellers would drive there (that's what we did) so not to worry, there's plenty of parking space, although an entry fee applies. The ample car lots are also because it seems this is quite a popular wedding destination. While we were there, there was a function going on at the upper deck and the guests came dressed to the nines. Very fancy.

Most of the accommodations at Dandenong recommend a meal at SkyHigh to (literally) top off your experience at the ranges, and some even offer a limo ride to and from your accomm. We didn't make a reservation, but luckily the restaurant managed to squeeze us in last minute. Seeing as the menu was quite posh, ZX and I had thought we might be turned away because of our attire (exercise garb!) but they didn't and we had the best meal of our trip here. YAY

Bielet was quite amused to see a pint sized Santa

The wait for the table took some time, so ZX and I took turns bringing the girls out while Bielet also busied herself taking photos like this

Bieny was the happiest kid in the world when the bread basket came. Mid-trip onwards though, she tired of breads and just wanted rice and noodles so we had to put up with some really awful food! She had a poor appetite as she was teething, poor darling.

Bielet mighty pleased to butter her own bread

ZX's barramundi (that was really fresh!) on a bed of greens. We had had many dishes of fish and chips by this point, but this was DA BOMB.

My delish kangaroo with sweet potato crisps. The crazed red meat fiend in me found this simply scrumptious but ZX felt it was too gamey. I was just happy enough to eat a dish that I wouldn't be able to get back home.

The chocolate mousse was a winner all round, but only Bieny liked the beetroot sorbet. She loves all kinds of dessert, even if she doesn't like her veggies!

Having satisfied our tummies, we went out for a last photo op before heading back to our accomm. We went back to this picture board (ZX had to take the photo so he couldn't join in) because, I had promised Bieny that we would take a nice photo together. She really liked the board, standing in front of it and pointing at it several times before I conceded a photo.

This was us three, and before that.....

Spot the Bieny baby! (She refused to walk off until I snapped this picture - even though you can hardly see her... I was alone with here so there wasn't anyone to carry her up. Hence we went back to take the photo of us three.)
